The End of 2011 Bring on 2012

Well hello there!! How have you all been, very quiet around the blogging front while all the lovelies take a well earned break with their families and recharge ready for a full on 2012.
Firstly I totally rocked the Christmas Day lunch with all the hangers on, was an expensive exercise but well worth it !! To the point most stayed and we did it all again for dinner :) That's a good sign that everyone is having a good time and eating well when they are still there for the next sitting!!!

Now money is tight, super duper tight, as this was the last Christmas that was paid for by my earnings, so it's a total budget rehaul for this family.
So ladies I've been on budget and let me share with you a few things. Firstly, I hate reading Must Have Lists, they only make you feel shit about yourself and what you can't afford. But let me let you in on what I now do, pick one thing off these lists that you can afford if you gave up something else.
A for instance, lovely Nikki over at Styling You had a top 10 list recently. I chose the Garnier BB  Skin Perfecter about $13.00 as something that was do-able for me. So whilst shopping I found it on special for $10, so I put back the snacks I had in the basket and got this instead. It's been life changing, literally. I got the medium shade and let me tell you ladies unless your olive skinned like me, go for the light. I rarely put foundation on everyday but I do moisturise religiously. This kills two birds with one stone, it covers like a foundation but smoothes your skin like a brilliant face cream.
The other thing I have had on my want list for a long time is Silicone Egg Poachers, now don't laugh but I love kitchen things, these retail for anything between $19-$30, I bought the $2 ones from K-mart. Exactly the freaking same and do a beautiful job. P.S I've had poached eggs for breaky 4 mornings in a row now, the novelty will wear off shortly.
So that's my resolution for the New Year really, is look at things differently, when on budget you can still have the beautiful things everyone else blogs about but you substitute it for something else. I feel fantastic, my face looks fantastic and look like I've actually made an effort even if I'm still in my robe at 4pm and my waist line is stoked that I didn't make it do an extra Zumba class for those lollies :) WIN WIN

Happy New Year Gorgeous Ones and See You in 2012 xxxxxxx

Sewing And Weird Dreams

Helllooo There !!!!
Well it's been a eventful few weeks really hasn't it. Not even mentioning the last few days and the Twitter Gate saga... As a voyeur of sorts, it was a eye opening experience.
There was the little sub group of people, which I was lucky to be apart of, that had open and honest discussion, both sides being represented and it was fantastic to be apart of, women who love the guts out of each other but have differing opinions and could talk about them without WW3 or handbags at 50 paces.
Very proud of you ladies, you know who you are :)

Now what sewing projects have I done......

Well Miss A required a red and green tutu for Santa...sheesh....of course

Ladies for your little ones this is sooo simple,

Piece of elastic/ribbon  - measured to your child's waist

Pieces of Tulle - 4" x 15" - 20-30 pieces depending how "fluffy" you want it

The whole thing cost me less than $10.00 and I have loads of leftover Tulle to make at least 3 more.
These would be fantastic to knock up for your kids birthday parties and they could all take one home with them

What else....oh the lunch wraps, a lil bit fancy schmancy but am in love with them, I've tested the bread issue and it takes about 4 hours before they go stale, so if packing for a picnic deffo plastic wrap first, school lunch you'd get away without...

Two squares of 26cm  - 1 your pattern piece, 2 your ripstop nylon
Matching Thread
Velcro

These wraps are made so you can wipe them clean, once again cheap as chips and super easy

On opposing corners sew your velcro on, right sides together sew all the way around leaving a 2 inch gap at the side to turn your fabric through, sew up your gap after turning and tadddah, stupidly simple right???

Now to my dreams.....
You see I have a tumor and please don't awww at me cause I am not THAT person, it's in my uterus and was detected in my first scan when pregnant with Miss A. The choices I made after that are my own, it is inoperable at this stage but the upshot is it's not cancerous. Although they keep checking that which does alert my inner alarm bells. Anyways, my lower back has always given me curry but more so over the last 7 months ish, so here is the dream part, I vision the tumor winding itself like a vine, over and through my spine, it's happening most nights, much like Jack's Beanstalk . Yes I need to go back to the doctor but just can not afford to so close to Christmas, this dam countries healthcare system is a joke, I do have a bulk bill doctor who I regularly went to every 3 months up till the Lemon time. I call her Lemon cause that is the size of her. I am a bit dirty at the doc's cause it turns out this tumor has been manifesting for a number of years, undetected by this doc who I had presented to numerous times with symptoms that are RED flags so the specialists tell me. Anyways that's my dream and I really am hoping it's not my body trying to tell me something other than exercise more your lazy bitch :)

Sooooo.....what you been doing ??????????

Exhaustion and Chipped Nails

I feel her pain!!! Leading up to the dreaded awesomeness that is Christmas Day at my home...sigh....I have been cleaning, scrubbing, practice recipes.... and to make it worse ....

My nails are chipped !!! Now as you all get to know me you will realise that my one luxury in life is my fingernails and toe nails being painted, you can read where I bang on about this here..About Me
I take that half hour/hour each week to do this because it makes me feel like a beautiful woman and I feel very weird without, now as I sit here and quickly type this, because I feel like I've neglected my blog badly of recent, my nails are screaming at me, but I don't have time!!!!!!!!!!!! Miss A has decided that there will be no sleeping this week and feeding is an optional extra ( chants silently, motherhood is wonderful..motherhood is wonderful)
I am going to have to skip Wonderful Weekends with Miss Sonia this week because quite simply I have nothing to report of interest to anyone!! Last minute Christmas Shopping and about 9000 klms walked of my hallway trying to soothe Miss A with Miss T screaming out of her bedroom "Can't you shut her up Mum I can't hear Wizards of Waverely Place" .......Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Now something I do want to share just quickly is a dough recipe gorgeous Sass from MooZoo Designs shared last week you can find it here....Gorgeous Sass
It truelly is the most wonderful pizza dough but I also found out she makes awesome Garlic Balls out of it as well, if your into making your own dough, I am, and have tried dozens, this is a winner!!!!
Love to you all and I have been catching up on my reading at stupid o'clock times eg. 2am, I hope to give a proper post very soon

Sneaky Sewing - Pin Cushion Flowers

Hello there my lovelies !!!!!!!
I have found some kindred spirits in this blogging world and they are also a little disheartened at the moment, so my biggest hugs and shoulders to stand up on and sing Eff You world xxx
Now for a lil sewing cheats. I am a self taught seamstress and have the gift of looking at something and seeing  it in my head and start hacking and sewing straight away. I never measure, I just squint, close one eye and go hmmm yep about that much ;) But I will attempt to translate my adhoc sewing for your perusing pleasure ;)

The flower pin cushions are dead easy!!! And I mean dead easy !!!
  • One artificial flower of your choice, one that has a lot of petals works best
  • Hot glue gun or No More Pins whatever fabric glue you have on hand
  • 6" x 6" square or similar size circle if you prefer - fabric  - choose one that accentuates your flowers colours
  • 2" x 9" strips x 2 for the wrist strap, measure your wrist and cut your length accordingly, I allow half inch each side for hem, cause I am a shit seamstress.
  • Good Pinchfull (technical term) of Hobby Fill or similar item
  • Small square of velcro - I used stick on velcro as it was handy and left over from another project
  • Needle and matching thread
Firstly put your wrist strap pieces right sides together (lay one flat and have the good side looking at you and then the other one, put good side down). As I used a plain colour didn't matter what side was facing :)

Pin together and do a straight stitch 3/4 the way around, leaving a two inch gap on one of the sides to be able to turn through your fabric so your right sides are showing. Before turning it out, trim your corners so that they will sit nice and flat and pointy. Careful not to snip your stitching.
Once turned out. close up your hole with straight stitch along the edge.

Now get your flower and pull out the middle and prolly first two layers of petals.
Get your square piece of fabric that will be your pin cushion. Place your hobby fill in the middle and pull your edges in, hand sew them together ....

Now I personally place a small disc of fabric over the bottom to hide the stitches I've just done so that it also adhere's evenly to the flower as well.
Just glue the disc on with a dab of your hot glue gun..
Now get your wrist strap and measure where the middle of it is or where you want the flower to be placed, mark it with a lil x with a pencil, it will be covered up anyways.
Glue your pin cushion onto the middle of the flower, press down gently so it adheres and then leave for a few minutes to dry.
Replace the petals you removed if you like, to fill in your sides where you glued the cushion in.
Once dried, glue onto your x marks the spot.
Now for your velcro, two small pieces one on each side see pic to get the jist of that one ;)

and ta da you will have your finished product.

I hope that made sense!! Any questions ask an expert!! No seriously if you have any questions please shoot me an email or in comments and will as always bullshit try to answer as best as I possibly can :)

Today I was supposed to attempt these ;

But tomorrow is another day.....
Hope your having an awesome Friday evening blogettes (still not catching on)

Wonderful Weekends No 2

Hello there wonderful blogettes (it will totally catch on). This weekend hmmmm, sewing, 5 hour roast, playing with kidlets, yelling at my husband, wait 5 hour roast your ask???? Oh god what a debacle, let me start from the beginning.....
Saturday morning I sent Stretch to local store who had 4 Burner BBQ's with hood and wok attachments on special for $149.00, so I kicked him out of bed at 7.00am to go line up and elbow the grannies out the way. Off he went, sale started at 8.00am, he was home by 8.05am. You see being 7 feet tall has it's advantages and the fact he's inked up to the hilt, most people are terrified of him, so he walked in, and as he puts it, was like Moses parting the waters, he was in and out in a minute. You see Miss OCD over here, had the exact cash ready to rock and roll Friday evening, I am a veteran of many a sale and have my "red light special kit" at the ready. It has you know, bottled water, bandaids, ready cash, muesli bar, so I can be hands free and GO GO GO GO.
Let's not dwell on the fact it took two and half hours to put together, we  I think it was totally worth it.

Soooo then I spent Saturday night, giving her a test run with kebabs and steak and sausages and tatties and onions and she cooked like a dream with bananas and lil brown sugar on there for dessert. Scrumptious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then muggins here was speaking to her mother on Sunday morning and stupidly mentioned the above and said oh I'm doing pork roast on there today for lunch, to which Mum says "Be there in ten mins" ...beep beep of phone being hung up.
Shit !!! Bugger !!! Bum!!! So I raced out to Woolies got extra veges and got the sucker oiled salted and on!!!! This was 11.00am. The parentals arrive, kiss the baby, play with other grand child, inspect back yard (once again not up to scratch), we get to 2.00pm....
Dad "What time is this friggin roast"
Me "Ummm it should be just about cooked" ....knowing full well the sucker was still stone cold in the middle and she was rocking along at 250C for 2 hours....
Mum "Well I'll just check it and see what YOU did wrong"
Me "Fuck"
Mum "It's still friggin cold in the middle you moron"
Me "I said dinner not lunch you lunatic"
Mum "BAHAHAHHAHHAHHAA"
Me "BAHAHAHHAHAHHAH"
Dad "I'm friggin hungry"
Mum and I together "Go make a friggin sandwich"
Needless to say at 4.00pm when we had "afternoon tea" of roast pork and veges, it was delicious and totally worth the wait :P Just don't ask my Dad if that's completely true :)
Oh and in amongst that I fitted in some new sewing ideas !!!!

Soooooooooo how was your weekend? Linking up with the gorgeous Sonia @ Life Love and Hiccups

Grateful For

I'm linking up with Maxabella tonight for I'm grateful for ....* Maxabella loves...: This week I'm grateful for... conversation
I have been reading tonight some wonderful blogs about what your grateful for and some fantabulous mothers going through or been through PND. This prompted me to tell a little about my story...
I HAVE DEPRESSION, seems easy to type or say those three words doesn't it. Not for me. The hardest words I have ever had to acknowledge. I'm the strong one, the funny one, the fix everybody elses shit one...aren't I? Not at the moment, everyone else in the world is just going to have to enjoy the mind numbing, tear your hair out, want to stab yourself in the eye, on hold music whilst I look after me.

If I am honest I can not pin point when it started or how, I know when I started to feel the black cloud, the anxious moments of feeling I can't breathe, I want to run and keep running and nobody will ever find me, it was during my second pregnancy.
There were significant dramas going on with my partners family (which I've blogged about earlier Achoo You: Busy Busy Busy) and normally I would take control of the situation but I had nothing, no energy, just emptiness and everyone around me didn't know what to do. I had helped and organised my inner circle for so long, nobody knew what to do when that went away. This is a work in progress. We are all working as one.
This brings me to what I am grateful for... My children, both my girls were not expected to be born, both had arrhythmia and did it tough. They have both showed how strong willed they are and still are to this day (sometimes I am not so grateful for that). When the days are overwhelming and I sit myself aside and do an hour by hour plan to get through the day, when all is quiet and Miss T and Miss A have succumbed to Mr Sandman, I kneel down by each cot/bed and thank them silently for making it through and for reminding me that I am worth something even though I may forget most days.
That's what I am grateful for x x x x x

Up She Goes

1st of December and it was time to stick with family tradition and assemble my black beauty. I have to admit, I had a little tear today, this is our first tree on our own and got quite emotional whilst placing our shimmery star on top. What traditions do you have for Christmas prep?

The Challenge

For a bit of fun and to fuel our competitive nature, Stretch and I have set an eBay challenge. Now we are both lovers and addicts of all things eBay, we even have a separate account that we have 10 bucks paid into weekly for such addictions.
Now here was the challenge, how much stuff could you get for 5 bucks inc postage?
The following rules apply:
A) you can not tell your challenger what you have bought
B) it's about quantity not quality
C) you must need or be able to use the goods purchased

I'M LOVING IT !!!! I've been scouring for hours and I'm onto a winner ladies
How about you? Would you enjoy such a challenge? Great novelty idea and quite a cheap alternative to normal Christmas gifts huh!!!

1st of Weekend Posts With Lovely Life Love and Hiccups

Well the weekend ...........

I sent a blanket email out last week to my nearest and dearest explaining that this year we won't be trecking from house to house Christmas Day but staying home due to newborn baby etc etc but everyone was more than welcome to come by. The truth be told we want to stay home this year and swim in our pool and drink lots of lovely cocktails. See all the relatives enjoy the same and never leave their home CDay, hence we trek around the countryside. Now this really was a token stop by message as knowing their track record and their love of the drink during the happy holidays and never expected any responses. From the day the email went out I've had nothing but ACCEPTANCES!!! From love to pop by to yes will be there for lunch thanks very much. So now my plans have gone from relaxed throw together lunch with my brood and Mum and Dad to the majority of the clan coming. Worst part being, the rule in the family is when invited to someone elses home you don't take anything but alcohol you wish to consume. Can anyone say SCREWED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I called Mum who found the whole situation hilarious, so I hung up on her huge guffaws of laughter!!! Stretch was no better, smirking to himself with his told you it would backfire smirk. I was freaking out. broke out in a mad sweat and a glass of wine and then ditched that glass and just drank out the bottle!!!
So for the remainder of the weekend, I turned my kitchen into a test kitchen. There is nothing worse than trying a recipe on the day of event and having it turn to complete and utter shit. So I baked, cooked, stirred, whipped up a frenzy. Please note I said TEST. This will become important shortly.
Basically I didn't have time to eat anything, so I tasted when out the oven, gave it a yes or no then shoved it in the fridge.
This morning I decided to get all the items out again and get the fussiest eater in the family, my dear Mother, around to try them all and give her wise and STRONG opinion.
I open said fridge and I was faced with wait for it ......

I screamed in horror and this is how the following conversation went

Me: What the effing hell happened to the food
Stretch : You wanted me to taste it right?
Me: Yes but not eat it ALLLLLLLLL (insert highest pitch voice you can imagine)
Stretch: Well that shows how good it was if I ate it ALL
Me: I don't give a f**** what you think, you'd eat shit on a plate if I put it in front of you!!!!
Stretch: Ohhhhh nodding his head knowing this statement was completely true
Me: This is going to cost you
Stretch: Head hung low, brief hesitation....what?
Me:  An Ipad 2

It was a pipedream that I might get one for Chrissy, it's a bloody sure thing now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So that was the weekend :) How was yours ?

Charlie

Everyone say hello to Charlie. He is our 2 year old staffy/mastif. Now before you ooohh and ahhhh at Charles (you'll see why he's being called by his full name in a moment), he's in trouble BIG doggy trouble.
I opened my back door today to be greeted by some random woman standing there, I was shocked and stunned at the same time, I look down and there is C..H..A..R..L..E..S laying on his back awaiting belly rubs. The said woman quickly showed her identification as being from the Electricty to read the meter, as I must have looked like I was going to rip her head off and shove it down her throat. GUARD DOG my arse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Said woman then went on to tell me that they had a good old play last time she read the meter when we were at work and what a wonderful dog he is.
So Charles you are in the doghouse, your punishment.......dog food for the next week. No treats from Mummy, no leftovers snuck out the back door for you when Daddy isn't looking, DOG FOOD !!!
Ha !!!!!!!!!!!! That'll show you !!!!!

The Versatile Blog Challenge

Okay so I'm not really sure if I am linking correctly but the lovely Sonia @ http://lifeloveandhiccups.blogspot.com/2011/11/5-versatile-bloggers-award-things-you.html?spref=fb nominated my virgin blog self to complete this. Five things you would notice about me if you met me in RLF.

Here goes...........................

1. My partner Stretch. Everyone notices my partner before me as he is just over 7 feet tall. People look at him and stare then look considerably down to my 5 foot 4 self and either stare or point and whisper. I am immune to this now but when we first got together many years ago it used to rile me to no end!!!!!!!!!
2. My painted nails....hands and toe. I CAN NOT go without painted nails. There are only two days in the last fifteen years that I have and both were the days my daughters were born. Let me tell you, straight after they were painted as it was the first thing packed into my hospital bag LMAO.
3. Olive skin, I have been blessed by my grandfathers genes and have olive skin, the most common comment to me is "Are you a Wog?" No in fact  I am a fourth generation Australian but because I have brunette hair and olive skin people always assume that I am a "wog chick". I have been known however to use this to my advantage when bothered by people I don't like in a public place with "no speak English". I do envy my girls English rose skin though so smooth and beautiful...sigh
4. Road Rage.......Our dear wonderful decrepit older generation who are still driving.......drive me completely bananas. My daughter finds it hysterical that I say to myself in the car GRANDMA get off the freaking road and have a cup of tea. You know exactly what I am talking about....right??? Speed past me do whatever and I will be in my own world but Grandma who is 90 driving at me on the wrong side of the road....arrrgghhhhh
5. My intolerance of bullies, if I see it, even in complete strangers I have to say something...I can not tolerate that abhorrent behaviour. I was bullied extensively as a child and publicaly so by my first love and so many just watched or turned their backs and I swore black and blue that I would never do the same to another human being.

Hmmmmm I think I did it right?????????????????? And I apologise to those who may be offended by my references but that's just me and love me as I am or click on another blog :)

What Did You Do Today??

Today was one of those not so great days. Lil Miss decided to cry from 5am till now, why? Because she can lol.

So I whipped up my own baby sling. I had a few metres of jersey fabric left over, so I cut it in half and sewed two ends together. Making one extra long piece, as it's jersey no fraying so no side seems needed. Yay!!! Find the middle and place across your stomach left hand tie up over your back and across right shoulder, same for next side, right tie up over left shoulder. Forming a cross on your back. Then form same cross across your chest, then tie around your back.

Taaaaadaaaa

So cranky baby was comfy and I got what I needed to get done around the house!!

As you can see when Tahlia got home from school she was stoked to see the strawberries I got her!! I'm loving our cheap fresh fruit at the moment!! Bananas are now affordable and being consumed daily here now.

When hubby get's home I shall be attacking this award do-hickey thingy majiggy where I name 5 things you would notice about if you met me IRL
Enough about me...Sooooooo how was your day?

Personal Milestones

What did you do today? Let me tell you what I did. I reached two massive milestones today.
I posted my first blog. Something I have deliberated about for a number of months now.
With such a warm response it gave me the confidence to do what I did next. See the above pool, well I have been putting off going in for awhile now. I've cleaned it, scrubbed it, pruned the garden around it, watched the other half and daughter play in it but generally just avoided going in. Today I took the plunge. Why might you ask have I been avoiding the enticing water so much, because you see I still have that jelly belly, you know the one, my second daughter is 11 weeks old on Friday and I have yet to shift the Ayers Rock that was my stomach.
So today brimming with confidence and being blessed from the skin gods with naturally olive skin (a tan always makes you feel slimmer don't you think) and newly purchased black swimsuit that hides all (god I love women who design these things with me in mind) I called upon my inner dolphin and dived in. I set myself the goal of 20 laps. For the keen eye you will see the sun lounge placed inches away from the steps, there is a method to my madness, I bloody needed it after doing 20 laps, if I had of carefully thought out the process I would have included an oxygen bottle. A big shout out to www.summerliving.com.au for the blue sarong on chair that I indulged myself with a few weeks ago. It was a godsend to wrap around me, milliseconds after leaving the pool :). My new goal is 20 laps per day and will keep you posted on how I am going with that.

In celebration I made cheater chicken for dinner, what is cheater chicken? My eldest named it CC because I leave out the egg portion of crumbing. I cut the chicken breasts into thin slices, then soak in milk and crumb and cook. Not an easy task when you have a baby strapped to the front of you for preparation, believe you me. She can call it what she likes but prior to this throw together, chicken had never passed her lips. Now this is another funny story, why didn't she eat chicken? because we would be eating Chicken Little (too many dvd's as a child).
So on this auspicious day, I thank every single blog I've read and person I have met in the last two months, listening reading their stories has inspired me more than words can say. Slowly but surely I am digging myself out of the black hole that was :)
THANK YOU

Blog Virgin

Well it seems I am the last on this blog band wagon business. I feel like the dork who showed up late to the party you know!!! I have wanted to write a blog for so long but thought pffft nobody is going to want to hear what I have to say. But after reading some fantastic and life changing blogs over the last few months, I realised it's not about that, it's really about yourself and another tool to express your being. So a big thank you to Sonia @ Love Life and Hiccups, Cherie @ A Baby Called Max, Karen @ Simply Said and Bianca @ A Little Delightful , to name a few.
You are life changing inspirational ladies, who I can't speak highly enough of.
A little bit about me, I am a mother of two girls, 8 going on 21 and 3 months. Big gap I know, which I am sure will be a big focus in the blog. I had forgotten how exhausting it is with a newborn. It's not like when you were young and went out on the boo hiss for an all nighter coming home at sunlight, giddily swinging high heels in hand, barefoot, thinking it was "the best night ever", then sleeping all day ready to go again the next night, oh no my dear childless friends it's not like that at all, these kind of all nighters are not joyous at all, there is no basking in the sunlight, no ability to sleep all day and definitely no waiting on that gorgeous boy (pre ugly lights coming on) to call or text, no my lovelies it's no picnic, but the most rewarding job you'll ever do. One smile after that  48 hours straight no sleep and your mush in their hands.
Oh my once you start typing it really does fly off the keyboard doesn't it. Okay well enough for my FIRST rant!!! Welcome one and all and I hope you enjoy your stay, tip your waitress on the way out :) xx
